Common Conditions We Help

At Loop Spine & Sports Center, Dr. Trottier has been evaluating and treating musculoskeletal conditions in downtown Chicago since 1996.

His approach is consistent regardless of what brings you in: a thorough examination, a clear diagnosis, and a treatment plan built around your specific condition rather than a generic protocol.

If pain is affecting your daily life, your work, or your ability to stay active, the first step is finding out exactly what is going on. That is what the first visit is for.

Low Back Pain Treatment

Low back pain is the most common condition we treat at Loop Spine & Sports Center, and for good reason. It is one of the most prevalent complaints among working adults, particularly those who spend long hours sitting at a desk, commuting, or alternating between sedentary and active lifestyles. For patients in the Loop and downtown Chicago, that description fits a large portion of the population.

Low back pain rarely has a single cause. It can stem from restricted or misaligned vertebral segments, compressed or irritated discs, muscle tension and spasm, hip and pelvis imbalances, or some combination of all of the above. Getting the diagnosis right before starting treatment is what determines whether care actually works or just provides temporary relief.

At Loop Spine & Sports Center, low back pain is typically treated with a combination of diversified spinal adjusting, lumbar flexion distraction, pelvic drop technique, massage therapy, and spinal decompression for disc-related cases. Custom foot orthotics are also frequently part of the treatment plan when foot and lower extremity mechanics are contributing to lumbar stress. The specific combination depends on what the examination finds and how you respond to care.

Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain is the second most common condition we treat, and it shows up in a wide variety of forms. Some patients come in with acute neck pain from sleeping in an awkward position or a sudden onset of stiffness. Others have been dealing with chronic tension and restricted range of motion for years, often connected to prolonged screen time, poor desk ergonomics, or the cumulative effect of stress on the muscles and joints of the cervical spine.

Neck pain frequently travels. Restricted segments in the cervical spine can refer pain and tension into the upper back and shoulders, contribute to headaches, and in cases involving disc involvement, send radiating symptoms down into the arms and hands. Treating neck pain effectively means understanding the full picture, not just addressing the area that hurts.

Dr. Trottier treats neck pain with hands-on cervical and thoracic adjusting tailored to each patient's comfort level and clinical presentation. Massage therapy plays a significant role in neck pain treatment here, particularly for patients whose symptoms have a strong muscular component. Most patients see meaningful improvement within the first few visits when the diagnosis is accurate and the treatment is properly matched to the condition.

Headache Treatment

Many patients who come in for neck pain discover that their headaches and their neck are more connected than they realized. Cervicogenic headaches, those originating from restricted joints and muscle tension in the cervical spine, are among the most common and most undertreated types of headache.

They are frequently mistaken for tension headaches or migraines and managed with medication that addresses the symptom without touching the underlying cause.

The pattern is consistent: restricted segments in the upper cervical spine create referred pain that travels into the base of the skull, across the top of the head, or behind the eyes. Tight suboccipital muscles at the base of the skull compound the problem.

Patients who have been dealing with frequent headaches for years are often surprised to find that chiropractic adjusting and massage therapy directed at the cervical spine and surrounding musculature produces meaningful relief when nothing else has.

Dr. Trottier evaluates headache patients carefully to determine whether the cervical spine is a contributing factor and whether chiropractic care is likely to help. Not every headache has a spinal component, and setting realistic expectations is part of that conversation. For patients whose headaches are cervicogenic in origin, the results are often significant.

Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica is not a diagnosis on its own. It is a symptom, specifically the radiating pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that travels from the lower back through the glute and down one or both legs along the path of the sciatic nerve. What causes that nerve irritation is what actually needs to be diagnosed and treated.

The most common culprits are a herniated or bulging lumbar disc pressing on the nerve root, degenerative disc changes that have narrowed the space around the nerve, or tightness in the piriformis muscle deep in the glute that compresses the sciatic nerve as it passes through or near that muscle.

Each of those causes calls for a somewhat different treatment approach, which is why getting the diagnosis right matters as much as it does with sciatica.

At Loop Spine & Sports Center, sciatica cases are evaluated thoroughly before treatment begins. For disc-related sciatica, spinal decompression is often a central part of the treatment plan alongside chiropractic adjusting and lumbar flexion distraction.

For piriformis-related sciatic symptoms, massage therapy targeting the deep hip rotators is frequently as important as the chiropractic component. Most patients with true sciatica require a combination of approaches and a consistent treatment schedule, particularly in the early weeks of care.

Not Sure If We Can Help?

That is a fair question and one worth asking before you make an appointment. The honest answer is that chiropractic care is not the right solution for every condition or every patient.

What we can tell you is that if your pain has a musculoskeletal component, there is a good chance we can help, and the first visit is designed to find out.

New patients are welcome and can take advantage of our $75 first visit special, which includes a thorough consultation, complete spinal examination, digital x-rays if needed, and a report of findings.

No pressure, no obligation. Just an honest conversation about what is going on and whether we can help.

"Very Positive"

This was my first visit and my overall experience was very positive. I came in for lower and upper back pain. Everyone was professional and friendly.

I was seen by the doctor with no delays, I had time to explain what was wrong, get treatment, and talk about next steps.

The process and any associated costs were clearly explained to me ahead of my appointment, which was very much appreciated and put my mind at ease that there will be no surprises or hidden costs.

I am going back for follow up treatment and I would recommend this facility.
